1. Who operates CalCalories
CalCalories is developed and operated by Chan Ka Wai (“CalCalories,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy applies to the CalCalories iOS app and the website at calcalories.app.
2. Information we collect
Account information
When you use guest access or sign in with Apple or Google, we process an account identifier and, when supplied, a display name. Authentication tokens are stored on your device in Apple’s Keychain; our server stores token digests rather than raw tokens.
Profile and wellness information
You may provide age, an energy-calculation selection, weight, height, activity level, unit preference, and a profile photo. We use these details to personalize calorie and macro starting goals and to display your profile.
Meal and nutrition information
When you request meal analysis, we process the meal photo, upload time, time zone, the AI-generated nutrition estimate, and any corrections you make. Saved meals include the reviewed meal name, calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, meal time, and an associated image when applicable.
AI Coach information
We process the questions you send to the AI nutrition coach, its replies, conversation history, safety-processing records, and usage-quota records so the feature can work and enforce its limits.
Subscription information
If you use CalCalories Pro, Apple and RevenueCat process purchase information. We receive a CalCalories customer identifier, product and entitlement status, and related subscription state needed to provide and restore Pro access. We do not receive your full payment-card number.
Technical information
Our service processes limited operational information such as request identifiers, request method and path, response status, duration, and security rate-limit signals. We do not intentionally log authorization headers, access tokens, meal-photo contents, or request bodies.
3. How we use information
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Analyze meal photos and show nutrition estimates for your review.
- Save meals, calculate daily totals, and show nutrition history.
- Personalize calorie and macro starting goals from your profile.
- Provide AI Coach replies, conversation history, safety controls, and usage limits.
- Fulfill, restore, and manage CalCalories Pro access.
- Prevent abuse, diagnose failures, and maintain service reliability.
- Comply with legal obligations and protect users, CalCalories, and others.
We do not use health or fitness information for advertising or marketing.
4. AI processing and service providers
CalCalories relies on carefully selected providers to operate the app. These may include Microsoft Azure for application hosting and private media storage; Dify and configured AI model providers for meal analysis and AI Coach workflows; RevenueCat and Apple for subscriptions; and Apple or Google when you choose their sign-in services.
These providers process information only as needed to perform their services for us or under their own terms when you interact directly with them. Provider availability and infrastructure may change as the service evolves. We review production provider retention and data-handling settings before launch and aim to minimize what is shared.
5. Storage and retention
- Meal photos: source photos are stored privately while analysis is pending. Temporary sources are removed after processing unless the selected result preserves that image for a user-visible analysis or meal.
- Meals and saved images: retained until you delete the meal or account.
- Unattached analyses: removed when you delete them, during scheduled cleanup, or when you delete your account.
- AI Coach history: retained to show conversation history until you delete the conversation or account.
- Sessions: retained until logout, expiry, or account deletion.
- Subscription records: retained by Apple and RevenueCat according to their legal and operational requirements.
Deletion may take additional time to propagate through encrypted backups and service-provider systems where retention is required for security, fraud prevention, accounting, or law. CalCalories does not make meal-media buckets public; images are delivered through short-lived signed links.
6. Your choices and controls
You can correct an AI result before saving, delete a saved meal, delete an AI Coach conversation, replace a profile photo, sign out, or delete your account from the app. Account deletion removes the CalCalories user record and associated sessions, analyses, meals, and related app records, subject to the limited retention described above.
Ending an unrecoverable guest session also requests deletion of that guest account and its associated server data. If deletion cannot be confirmed, the app keeps the local session available so you can retry rather than silently abandoning the data.
7. Camera and photo-library access
CalCalories requests camera or photo-library access only when you choose a feature that needs it. You can change access at any time in iPhone Settings. Photo access is used for meal analysis or a profile image you select; it is not used to scan your library for unrelated content.
8. Security
We use HTTPS, private storage, short-lived media links, device Keychain storage for tokens, hashed server-side token records, access controls, and operational safeguards designed to protect information. No security measure can guarantee absolute protection, so please use a secure device and report suspected account misuse through our Support page once direct support becomes available.
9. Children
CalCalories is designed for adults and is not directed to children under 18. The app’s personalized energy estimate is adult-only. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. International processing
Your information may be processed in locations where CalCalories or its providers operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws. We use provider and contractual safeguards appropriate to the service and information involved.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when features, providers, or legal requirements change. We will publish the revised policy here and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app.
